Meet the Team

Our team's main focus was in the realm of protective equipment. After looking into many different ideas, we decided on the idea of creating a protective barrier that would allow health care providers and patients to interact. This would be by minimizing the risk of exposure. This design is a combination of two devices that are similar to those already used in the medical field. These are the X-Ray Model Shield and the Incubation Box.

Hello! I am ...

Krista Bryan
Krista Bryan

I am Krista Bryan and I am currently a Sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I was born in New Jersey and moved to North Carolina when I was four years old, so most of my life was in the south. I live in a small town about 30-45 minutes outside of Charlotte. After moving I never really left the Charlotte area (outside of the occasional vacation). It was not until I got to college that I started to expand my horizons.

Creativity is what inspires me, no matter the outlet. When I see someone else making what they are thinking turn into reality, it makes me want to do the same thing. I am an artistic person so anything that can make me think and feel in some sort of way is very impactful for me.

Martin Rosas
Martin Rosas

My name is Martin Rosas, I am originally from Mexico but I moved to the United States when I was fourteen to a town called Havelock. I am currently pursuing a major in psychology and a major in mathematics, with an emphasis in pre-med. I am inspired to help people, which is why I want to pursue a career in the medical field because I believe that fits the way in which I want to make a difference in the world. I want to leave a legacy by inspiring immigrants like me to pursue the American dream.

Some of the main things in my bucket list include: Learning a third language, visiting Italy, learning to play the guitar or piano, becoming a translator, and learning how to make my own clothes. Skydiving was a big hit on my bucket list but I got to finally do it two years ago. Three inventions that I believed have made a positive impact in our lives are: dialysis, the defibrillator, and the fetal ultrasound. These inventions expanded our life span, helped us improve the quality of life of those living with different diseases, and allowed us to see issues that might arise before a baby came to this world.

Nicolas Barwell
Nicolas Barwell

My name is Nicolas Barwell and I am a Senior in UNCCs mechanical engineering technology program. Growing up my mother worked in a hospital and my dad was a carpenter and mechanic. This led to a desire to pursue a career in either medicine or engineering.

I chose to go into engineering but decided throughout my college career that I would like to go into medical design engineering. Upon graduation, I plan to go into the workforce to gain experience that will eventually lead to a career in medical design engineering. Due to COVID-19 I will not be participating in a commencement ceremony for my graduation in May and have not been able to interact with friends during my last few months of college. I have been able to spend more time on my hobby of working on my cars due to having time at home. In this hard time I have great sympathy for those in the medical field who are battling the virus head on. This is why I have chosen to try and design a product that will act as a buffer between the infected and their caretakers.

Jacob Pridmore
Jacob Pridmore

My name is Jacob Pridmore. I am currently a Sophomore Mechanical Engineering student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I plan to enter the industry with a career in Robotics.

At UNC Charlotte, I was a part of the Real Estate Club.

I have 10 years of Taekwondo experience, working up to the rank of Second-degree Senior black belt. In High School, I was a captain of a Competitive VEX Robotics team and participated in the National Honors Society, National Technical Honors Society, and BETA Club.

Jordan Kalenian
Jordan Kalenian

My name is Jordan Kalenian. I am a senior in Mechanical Engineering Technology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. While here, I have had the opportunity to do multiple internships related to mechanical design. After graduation, I plan to continue in this field as I enjoy the challenges that come with it. I am excited to be able to apply the skills I have learned thus far toward this project.

My goal is to help create something that can make a difference while inspiring others to do the same.

We believe that we can use our design to change the world, for COVID, and the future of health.
